Plans Progress for £300,000 Skatepark in Downham Market

Downham Market Town Council is taking the next step towards delivering a new £300,000 purpose-built concrete skatepark at the Jubilee Community Centre site.

Following an initial public consultation, the Town Council is now inviting Expressions of Interest from experienced contractors to help bring the project to life.

The proposed skatepark will cover an area of approximately 20m x 40m and is being designed to provide a modern, accessible and exciting facility for people of all ages and abilities, including skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX riders and skaters.

Initial ideas developed by members of the local community, working alongside skatepark consultants Radii Ramps, include a fully enclosed, sunken bowl, a traditional street plaza area and a jump line. The different elements will be designed to flow together, creating a varied experience suitable for both beginners and more experienced riders.

The Council is seeking a specialist contractor to oversee the project from further community consultation and detailed design through to planning permission and construction. The successful contractor will be expected to deliver a high-quality, durable facility that provides value for money and meets recognised safety standards.

Community involvement will remain central to the project.

Once interested contractors have submitted their proposals, the Town Council will hold a further informal public consultation in conjunction with Radii Ramps. This will give local residents and skatepark users another opportunity to view the proposals, share their ideas and help shape the final design of both the skatepark and its surrounding area.

The Council is also keen to encourage the use of local suppliers wherever possible and ensure that construction works are managed with minimal disruption to the surrounding community.

The proposed £300,000 skatepark represents a significant investment in recreational facilities for Downham Market, with the aim of creating a dedicated space where young people, families and riders of different abilities can enjoy wheeled sports, develop their skills and spend time together.

Further details about the next public consultation will be announced once contractor proposals have been received.

For updates on the project, residents are encouraged to follow Downham Market Town Council's website and social media channels.
