Message from the Mayor on behalf on The Town Team

Monday, 6 December 2021

A very big thank you to all those businesses who took part in Downham Market's first Late Night Opening for some years.

It was lovely to see the efforts that so many of you had gone to make the evening successful. The "Winter Wonderland" in Barker Brothers was a joy to behold, The mince pies were much appreciated as was the advice I had on Christmas lights for my garden.

I have started my Christmas preparation late this year, but Reeds tempted me to make a start and every shop that I visited tempted me to continue.

Forget Amazon, to shop local is the way forward for me!

In no particular order the shops that opened on Thursday, 2nd. December were as follows:

Tickled Pink; Jewellery Unique; No 8, The Bookshop; Norfolk Cheese Company; No 10, Framing Arts; Laine Crafts; Sewing Room; NSPCC Charity shop; Waffleopolis; Reeds; and Barker Brothers. There were also several hairdressers and Barber shops open and of course thanks also to the stalls on the square, Doughnuts, Melt Down Danes with their wonderful Elf, and Beer Hatch.

Finally, thank you Hilgay Silver Band for creating a Christmas atmosphere with your music.

Once again, a very big thanks to all and my apologies if I have missed someone, or got the name of your business wrong.

The next Late-Night dates are Thursday, 9th. December and Thursday, 16th. December.
